A Summary of Seminary Stuff

This semester, we, the Pre-Theology class, are taking Latin I, Practical Theological Concepts, Ancient Philosophy, and a class on the Catechism. In addition to this, once a week we have a "Formation" meeting with the Dean of Men for the College Division. The Dean of Men is a position under the Rector, who is the head of the seminary. There is a Dean of Men for the College Division and for the Theology Division.

The College Division has all four years of normal college classes and focuses on a major in Philosophy in preparation for the Theology studies the last four years. The College Division also includes the Pre-Theology class, which includes men, like me, who have their four year college degree from another school and have entered seminary after that. We just take two years of Philosophy and other classes before moving into Theology.

The Theology Division is a four year program of more intense formation and studies, focusing on Theology, versus a Philosophy focus for the College Division. Both houses of formation are on the same campus but we are kept relatively separate from each other, except for a few events each week.

We begin the day with Morning Prayer at 7:00 am, followed by Mass at 7:25 am. Breakfast is around 8am and then we have our first period of classes at 8:50 am. The class periods are: 8:50 - 10:05; 10:15 - 11:30; 11:40 - 12:55; 1:35 - 2:50. Evening prayer is at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner. There are various events in the evenings, and sometimes during the day. We play sports on the weekends and during the week when we have free time. As is obvious if you have followed my website, we have soccer here during the Fall semester. There is also Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, and Football in the Fall. In the Spring, we have Basketball and maybe some others. Some of these go on throughout the year.

My schedule right now is:

Monday: 8:50 am Pract. Theo; 10:15 am Ancient Phil.

Tuesday: 8:50 am Formation; 1:35 am Latin I

Wednesday: 8:50 am Pract. Theo; 10:15 am Ancient Phil.

Thursday: Apostolate Day* (see below)

Friday: 1:35 am Latin I

Saturday: Free day after Mass

Sunday: No classes, but must stay on Campus (relatively free)

* Apostolate Day: After Mass, all seminarians go to a parish assignment to work there, teaching and visiting hospitals, nursing homes, parishioners' homes, etc. We return in time for Evening Prayer.
